Getting a horizontal recording into 9:16 for YouTube Shorts is more than cropping the edges. Fix the frame in the center and the speaker ends up half out of shot. BeamTake follows the speaker's face to build the frame and smooths the movement, so the result looks edited rather than shaky.

With two people in an interview, a center crop shows half of each. In a presentation, the speaker walks right and out of frame. Face tracking solves both: the frame moves to where the speaker is, and transitions are smoothed.

9:16, 2:3, 4:5, 3:4, 1:1, 5:4, 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9. All export at 1080 pixels on the short side; on the Studio plan the same ratios export at 2160 pixels (4K). If the source is lower resolution, nothing is artificially upscaled.
The Shorts feed is driven by YouTube's recommendation engine but also fed by search. That gives short video something rare: a Short with the right title can keep getting views for months.
The crop is taken at source resolution and then scaled to the target size. A 9:16 export from a 4K source is visibly sharper than one from 1080p, because the vertical frame uses only the middle strip of the picture and the real pixel count there decides the result.
So if you have a 4K recording, don't downscale it before exporting vertical. On the Studio plan the export itself can go up to 2160 pixels on the short side.
Re-render from the same source with a different ratio; the source isn't downloaded again, only the framing is recalculated.
When no face is found, the frame follows where the motion is; for wide shots with nobody speaking, the picture is fitted onto a blurred background instead of being cropped.
Detail loss is limited because the crop comes from source resolution. Taking 9:16 from a 4K source gives a clearly sharper result than from 1080p.
