YouTube to TikTok

YouTube content isn't ready for TikTok as it is: the ratio is different, the way people watch is different, attention spans are different. On YouTube viewers watch sound on, often on a big screen and decide within the first 15 seconds; on TikTok it's one-handed, vertical, often starting muted and the first 2 seconds. BeamTake bridges the gap: it pulls out the parts of a long recording that stand on their own, frames them for 9:16 and burns in the captions.

YouTube to TikTok: step by step

Try it free
01

Paste the YouTube link

Drop the link in the box. The whole video isn't downloaded; only the audio is fetched first, so even long recordings start quickly.

02

Get the best moments

Speech is transcribed with word timing, and segments that start and end cleanly and make sense on their own are scored. Pick the ones you want from the list.

03

Frame it for 9:16

The frame follows the speaker's face and leaves room for the part of the screen TikTok's interface covers (~140 px of buttons on the right edge, ~340 px of username and caption at the bottom).

04

Burn in captions

Captions are rendered into the video, no separate file needed. Pick one of nine styles; font size scales to the ratio automatically.

05

Post to TikTok

If your account is connected the clip goes straight out; or put it on the calendar for a good time on TikTok.

Why you can't just upload a YouTube video to TikTok

First, framing. A YouTube recording is 16:9 (long-form) · 9:16 (Shorts), while TikTok wants 9:16. Cropping the center leaves the speaker out of frame; when the speaker moves, the frame has to move with them.

Second, length. On TikTok: up to 10 minutes; 21–34 seconds is the comfortable range in the feed. Cutting from the start of a long recording doesn't work, because what grabs viewers is where the topic turns, not the opening.

Third, sound. In the TikTok feed video is often one-handed, vertical, often starting muted. Without captions, it might as well not be watched.

How content travels on TikTok

On TikTok, follower count doesn't decide distribution: every video is shown to a small group first and grows based on how they react. A new account's clip can travel as far as an old one's, but for the same reason every clip has to prove itself from zero.

What to watch out for on TikTok

  • If the first frame is static, people swipe: start the clip mid-thought, while something is happening.
  • The bottom-right corner is full of buttons; center the captions and lift them above the bottom strip.
  • Many people watch with the sound off: burned-in captions aren't decoration here, they're how the video is understood.
  • Spread the 5–6 clips from one long video over several days instead of posting them all at once.

What's special about recordings from YouTube

Content on YouTube travels two ways: search and recommendations. Search keeps sending traffic for years, recommendations spike in the first hours and fade. The Shorts feed sits in between: it spreads through recommendations but is also fed by search.

  • In the Shorts feed the title sits on the bottom strip, so keep captions in the lower-middle third of the frame.
  • YouTube is the second-largest search engine: put the phrase people actually search for in the clip's title and description.
  • Chapters of a long video are rarely good clip boundaries; where a thought ends is not where a chapter ends.

FAQ

Can I make TikTok clips without downloading the YouTube video?

Yes. Just paste the link; you don't need to download anything. Only the audio is transcribed, and video is fetched just for the ranges you pick.

What if the framing misses the speaker?

Framing follows the face and is smoothed, so it doesn't jump. If you're not happy, re-render the clip with a different ratio; nothing is re-transcribed, only the framing changes.

How many TikTok clips come out of one YouTube video?

It depends on how dense the conversation is. A forty-minute recording typically gives 6–10 standalone moments; you pick which ones to publish.

Can I fix the captions afterwards?

Yes. Edit them line by line in the dashboard, or download the .srt, fix it and burn it in again. Handy for names and brand names.
