BeamTake/Tools/Black knockout and outline

Add an outline to your PNG design

Add a smooth, continuous outline around a transparent PNG, set in millimeters. A white outline makes the design pop on dark shirts; fill the inner gaps for a sticker look.

How it works

Add an outline to your PNG design: step by step

Get started
01

Upload the design

Transparent PNG works best; JPG and WEBP work too.

02

Set knockout and outline

Pick the color to remove, the tolerance and the outline width; the preview shows the shirt color.

03

Download PNG

Download the hard-edged, print-ready file or add it to a gang sheet.

When does an outline help?

  • To separate a dark design from a dark shirt
  • For a white sticker or label border
  • To give a clean cutting margin for plotter-cut designs
  • To make the pieces of a black-knockout design stand out

Choosing the width

A 1–3 mm outline at print size suits most designs. Outlines thinner than 0.5 mm can break during transfer. The width is entered in millimeters and converted to pixels using the file's DPI.

FAQ

Is the outline semi-transparent?

No. The outline and design have hard edges with no semi-transparent pixels, so there's no white halo in DTF.

Can I add an outline without the knockout?

Yes, turn off the knockout and turn on only the outline.
