Before you send it to print
- The file should be a PNG with a truly transparent background; a gray-and-white checkerboard is fake transparency
- No semi-transparent pixels on the edge; DTF prints white under them too
- At least 250 DPI at print size, ideally 300
- Lines thicker than 0.5 mm, detached pieces larger than 1 mm²
- RGB color mode with an sRGB profile; CMYK files can shift colors
- On dark shirts, knocking out black saves ink and gives a softer hand
The most common mistakes
Images from ChatGPT and similar tools often have fake transparency: the background is a gray-and-white checkerboard that prints as is. Logos saved from the web are usually small and carry a white halo because they were cut from a white background.
